Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park is situated in the North Western part of Rwanda bordering Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mgahinga National Park in Uganda. The Park inhabits the rare species of Mountain Gorillas and Golden Monkeys. Other tha the gorillas and golden monkeys, the park has five of the Virunga Volcanoes i.e (Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo) with 160 km2 covered in rainforest and bamboo.
How to Get to Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park is accessed b use of both road and air transport as you travel from Kigali international airport towards musanze Town then Ruhengeri at Volcanoes National Park. This takes you 2 to 3 hours with lunch en-route.
By air you catch a flight at Kigali international airport to take you to Ruhengeri Airstrip then to volcanoes national park.
Activities in volcano national park
Gorilla trekking
Volcanoes National Park offers Gorilla Trekking Adventures as you get an opportunity to trek these for 3-5 hours and after a while you meet them and in an hour stay in their presence.
You reach the Park headquarters for short briefing on conduct around the Mountain Gorillas then later in allocated groups of 8 with a park ranger guide, enter the forest to trek the Gorillas for 3-5 hours in the green forest following different trails with your protection gear on and information from the trackers. You later meet the Gorillas and in an hour stay in their presence taking many photos to keep about your awesome adventure with the Gorillas.
Golden Monkey trekking
Golden Monkey racking at volcanoes national park is exciting to do in the park as you follow the golden monkeys in their natural forest vegetation habitat. You track these for 2-4 hours then after you meet them as you follow them along different trails then with camera take many photos to keep.
Volcano climbing
Volcanoes national park has three extinct volcanoes that are hiked by travelers that visit the park and wan to hike. The mountain volcanoes that are hiked include; e (Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo) Mount Karisimbi is the most hiked Volcano and the experience is worthy the hike.
Caving
Caving in Rwanda is done within the Musanze caves which are located a few kilometers off volcanoes national park. Park Ranger guides lead you into these caves while telling you the mysteries of the caves and history as well.
Twin Lakes of Burere & Ruhondo
When in Rwanda visit the twin lakes of Burere and Ruhondo situated in the heart of Volcanoes national park. Take a boat ride on either of the lakes rewards you with spectacular views of the entire park and the neighboring communities.

Music and dance play an indispensable role in everyday life here, and performances range from dashing demonstrations of bravery and prowess to humorous songs, light-hearted dances, and rural artistry with roots in traditional agriculture. Traditional songs are often accompanied by a solitary lulunga a harp-like instrument with eight strings while more celebratory dances are backed by a drum orchestra, which typically comprises seven to nine members who collectively produce a hypnotic and exciting explosion set of intertwining rhythms.
