Mountain Rwenzori National Park

Mountain Rwenzori National Park is located in the western part of Uganda along the Uganda Congo border. The Mountain Rwenzori comprises of snow peaks that are the third highest point in Africa with slopes which are covered with bamboo, montane forest vegetation, moorland, shrubs, vast tree heathers, vibrant mosses and big lobelias as well as stunning flowers.

Various wildlife animals inhabit the park i. e 70 different species, 217 species of birds for example the 19 Albertine rift endemics and rare thick vegetation. Hiking Mountain Rwenzori takes about 9- 12 days till the top at Margherita peak which is the highest.

Activities at Mountain Rwenzori National Park

Bird watching

Bird watching at Mountain Rwenzori is exceptional to do as you transfer in the forest vegetation habitat watching birds flying from one place to another. Bird species you watch include; Bee-eaters, robins, sunbirds and barbets. Other bird species to spot include the Rwenzori Turaco, Long-eared Owl, Bearded Vultures, Swifts and Black Eagles etc.

Cultural Encounter

Mountain Rwenzori National Park is perfect for cultural Encounters as you explore and visit the local traditional Bakonzo people who introduce you to the their local traditional customs through cultural performances as you engage in music, dance and drama. You also engage in visiting the traditional healers, black smiths, basket weavers/ story tellers, etc.

Hiking and Nature walks

Hiking and Nature walks in the park take you towards Lake Mahooma and Buraro chimpanzee forest via the villages of Kichamba to Karangura fold. You continue to the Bundibugyo area along the Bwamba route. Embark on forest walks outside the park through the villages of Ruboni and Turaco. You can take on the walk along River Mubuku where you view Mount Baker and the Portal peaks at a distance.

Mountain/ Volcano climbing

Mountain Rwenzori Climbing is the most prominent safari activity carried out in the Park along the Mountain as you get to reach Margherita Peak which is the highest of all. There are two routes to use to get to the top and these include; the kilembe Trekking Trail or the Central circuit Route. En-route on your hike, you view Lake Mahooma at a distance, four horned Chameleon as well as beautiful flowers.
