Mountain Rwenzori

Mountain Rwenzori is located in Mountain Rwenzori National Park West of Uganda elevating to 5,109 metres (16,762 ft) at Margherita with snow and glaciers. Mountain Rwenzori comprises of streams that are sources of River Nile with Virunga National Park East of DR Congo.

Mountain Rwenzori is situated 120 kilometres (75 mi) long and 65 kilometres (40 mi) wide with six summits separated by deep gorges and these include; Mount Stanley (5,109 metres (16,762 ft)), Mount Speke (4,890 metres (16,040 ft)), Mount Baker (4,843 metres (15,889 ft)), Mount Emin (4,798 metres (15,741 ft)), Mount Gessi (4,715 metres (15,469 ft)) and Mount Luigi di Savoia (4,627 metres (15,180 ft.

Mountain Rwenzori comprises of verdant green vegetation which includes Tropical Rain Forest with alpine meadows, giant groundsel and giant lobelia which is 6 meters tall.

Flora along the Mountain includes; the evergreen forest zone (up to 2,800 metres (9,200 ft)), bamboo zone (2,800 to 3,300 metres (9,200 to 10,800 ft)), heather zone (3,000 to 3,800 metres (9,800 to 12,500 ft)), alpine zone (3,500 to 4,500 metres (11,500 to 14,800 ft)), and nival zone (4,400 to 5,000 metres (14,400 to 16,400 ft)).

How to Get to Mountain Rwenzori in Uganda

Mountain Rwenzori in Uganda is accessed by use of both road and air transport which are chosen depending on the tastes and preferences of the travelers/ hikers.

By Road

Mountain Rwenzori is accessed through travelling along the road from Kampala or the Entebbe international airport in a 4×4 vehicle to the western part of Uganda via mbarara then kasese and later Mountain Rwenzori National park.

By Air

Mountain Rwenzori is also accessed by use of air transport as you board a domestic flight from Entebbe international airport or the kajjansi airstrip to kasese airport where you get picked up by a driver guide to transfer you to Mountain Rwenzori National Park.

Best Time to visit Mountain Rwenzori

Rwenzori Mountain is available to be visited anytime around the year although the best time to visit mountain Rwenzori is during the months of January-March and June-October

Hiking Mountain Rwenzori is the most popular activity carried out in the Park and includes transferring to Nyakalengija where you are shortly briefed on conduct when hiking to the top of the Mountain. When here, you are distributed into groups with a park ranger guide to lead and en-route watch the green terrain vegetation, birds then after you shall reach mountain Rwenzori’s highest point Margeherita.
