Mountain Elgon National Park

Mountain Elgon National Park is located in the eastern Part of Uganda along the border of Uganda and Kenya. The Mountain has the highest point being Wagagai at 4321 meters which is enfolded in rugged peaks with a vast caldera at the top of the Mountain.

The Park includes stunning flora and Fauna covering an area of 1,110 square kilometers. The Park is situated along the equator hence experiencing both dry and wet seasons.

When to Visit Mountain Elgon National Park Uganda

Mountain Elgon National Park Uganda is visited any time around the year although the Best Time to Visit the Park is during the dry Season in the months of June-August and December-March.

How to Get To Mountain Elgon National Park Uganda

Mountain Elon National Park is located about 235 kms East from Kampala using road transport in a 4×4 vehicle via the Jinja- Mbale Route for a distance that covers 3-4 hours. After a while, you reach Mbale then Kapchorwa later the Park.

Mountain/Volcano Climbing

Mountain Elgon National Park is awesome for all looking to climb the majestic mountain Elgon in Uganda. The Mountain gives you a chance to hike to Wagagai Peak and en-route you watch various attractions, wildlife animals, flora.

Birding Watching

Bird watching at Mountain Elgon National Park is exciting and done at Kapkwai Forest Exploration Centre, Cheptui Falls. The Bird species you watch include; African Goshawk; Chubb’s Cisticola, White-chinned Prinia and African Blue Flycatcher etc.

Nature walks

Mountain Elgon national Pak is perfect for nature walks as you go with a park ranger guide along trails watching Sipi Falls, the Walls of Death and Karamoja plains at a distance. En-route the walks, have views of the primates, birds and rare tree species past caves, viewpoints and waterfalls, with the option of camping overnight on the mountain slopes.

Sports’ fishing

Sports’ fishing is done at the highest of the three waterfalls at Sipi where all anglers catch the rainbow sprout. You Must coe with your fishing equipment or hire some at Sipi River Lodge then embark on hike to this waterfall and catch the Rain bow sprout.

Cultural Encounters

Cultural Encounters are awesome to do at Mountain Elgon National Park as you go with a park ranger guide to explore and visit the local Sabiny and Bagisu People. You also engage in picking Arabica coffee in Kenya and Uganda.

Mountain Biking

The Park is perfect for all travelers interested in biking safaris as they get a chance to run from Sipi trading Center to Chema Hill in Kapchorwa town. The Biking expedition takes a period of 1.5 hours as you watch the stunning waterfalls.

Rock climbing

Rock climbing at Mountain Elgon national Par is done close to the Park along 14 different Routes that require unique rock scaling techniques. The toughest climb is 35m whereas the easiest is 15m.
